The DocNet Management Symposium on "Demographic Change" will take place Friday, October 29th, 2010.
This year's topic "From Grey to Silver?! – How to successfully manage the Challenges and Opportunities of the Demographic Change" addresses one of the most crucial issues in current public discourse. Decreasing birthrates and the simultaneous increase in life expectancy lead to a substantial demographic change in most Western societies. The resultant ageing and shrinking of the workforce has far reaching implications for employees as well as for firms and organizations.
In order to account for its complexity, the topic of the demographic change will be dealt with from various perspectives and in an interdisciplinary manner, bringing together distinguished researchers and practitioners from different fields and disciplines. As a starting point, the demographic change will be analyzed from an economic perspective, describing its impact on national labor markets including potential changes in the pension or vocational training systems. Secondly, the role of companies will be highlighted with a focus on the necessary adaptations of their HR- and leadership systems in order to address the different needs of diverse age groups in the workplace. Finally, the distinct opportunities arising from the demographic change will be discussed which comprise the emergence of new markets, customer groups and sales prospects.
To bridge the gap between theory and practice, the challenges and opportunities that companies and the society are facing will be illustrated by selected speakers. Prof. Dr. Roman Herzog, Germany's former president, will held this years' key note speech.
As an important part of this year's symposium, several panel discussions will serve as a basis for a lively dialogue between experts from different disciplines and the participants of the DocNet Management symposium.
