The University of St. Gallen hosts the 9th DocNet Management Symposium (DMS) on "Balanced Growth: Finding Strategies for Sustainable Development"* on November 18th, 2011.
This year's topic "Balanced Growth: Finding Strategies for Sustainable Development" addresses a crucial issue in the current public discourse. Developing countries like China are catching up fast with industrialized western nations. Is their growth balanced with respect to speed and volume? If not, what are the consequences of an excessive or even insufficient growth? Which role do companies play within that growth processes, how can they find strategies to establish a balanced and sustainable growth? What are factors guiding the choice of growth strategies? Which challenges lay ahead by following particular strategies? Furthermore, a firm's growth is based on the usage of diverse resources. These can be financial, material, and human resources. Here, the challenges for firms are the management of resources to achieve long lasting success. These questions are of a striking relevance to all of us.
This year's DocNet Management Symposium aims at facilitating an exclusive debate between academia and practice. Distinguished researchers and practitioners from different disciplines will actively discuss how to bridge the gap between theory and practice, strategies and their consequences on countries, companies, and society. The symposium offers an opportunity for the audience to challenge our speakers within a vivid discussion.
